DAM on GRIT TV, Slingshot Hip-Hop, Coming of Age in Latin America, and David Cay Johnston

Art and politics in Israel/Palestine. Hip-Hop artists Tamar Nafar, Mahmoud Jreri, Suhell Nafar of the Palestinian trio “DAM” on their political and musical journey. Their influences range from Tupac Shakur and the Wu-Tang clan to Edward Said and Mahmoud Darwish. But much of their music and their message come from the world they live in. DAM are the subject of a new documentary film, Slingshot Hip Hop. They are joined by Hip Hop Scholar Nirit Ben-Ari.

Chesa Boudin, the author of Gringo: A Coming of Age in Latin America, discusses his personal political journey, the radical past of his parents--members of the Weather Underground--and his experience in Latin America.

Finally, David Cay Johnston, the author of Free Lunch and Perfectly Legal, on why the rich are getting richer, still. Barack Obama, he says, is putting in place the biggest tax cuts in history, even bigger than the Bush tax cuts. To whose advantage? And how can the media have it all wrong?

Thanks to Jackie Salloum and the American News Project for video in tonight’s show.
